Unique Disability ID (UDID)
(The New System for Issuing ID Cards to Persons with Disabilities)
The Government of India has introduced the Unique Disability ID (UDID) Project to create a standardized identity card for all persons with disabilities across the country and to maintain a comprehensive and accurate national database. Through this project, UDID cards are being issued online to eligible persons with disabilities.
The UDID Project will enable the Government to obtain accurate information on the status and needs of persons with disabilities and to formulate and implement various welfare schemes more effectively.
The UDID card is now being issued in Mizoram as well. All persons with disabilities are required to obtain this card. Those who do not possess a UDID card will no longer be eligible to apply for disability-related benefits and services provided by the Government.
Procedure for Obtaining the UDID Card
1. For persons who do not yet have a Disability Certificate:
- Collect the application form from the District Hospital in your district and apply for a Disability Certificate.
- Once the Disability Certificate has been issued, the District Hospital will process and submit the online application for your UDID card.
- Applicants must bring:
- Two passport-size photographs, and
- A valid address proof (Aadhaar Card).
2. For persons who already have a Disability Certificate but do not yet have a UDID card:
- An online application can be submitted through the official UDID website:
https://www.swavlambancard.gov.in - Clear scanned copies of all required supporting documents must be uploaded during the application process.
3. For persons who do not have a Disability Certificate but wish to apply online:
- They may submit an online application through the UDID portal.
- However, they will still be required to appear before a Specialist Doctor at the District Hospital for disability assessment and certification.
The Social Welfare Department appeals to and encourages all persons with disabilities to obtain a Unique Disability ID (UDID) Card so that they can continue to access government benefits and services available to them.
